HOW TO PRONOUNCE

PROLONG / EXTEND

 To PROLONG or EXTEND the sound of mad letter with 4 or 5 harakat (in symbol)

EXAMPLES

  • عَذَابَهُۥۤ [ Al Fajr 25]
  • أَن لَّمۡ یَرَهُۥۤ [ Al Balad 7]
  • لِمِثۡلِهِۦۤ أَبَدًا [ An Nur 17]
  • أَنَّ مَالَهُۥۤ أَخۡلَدَهُۥ [ Al Humazah 3]
  • مِن دُونِهِۦۤ أَوۡلِیَاۤءَۗ [ Al A’raf 3]

DEFINITION

Mad Silah Towilah is the Ha ’Dhomir or Ha’ Kinayah come across with hamzah in two words with the condition that the Ha ’dhomir must be located between two vowel letters.

 

RATE OF HARAKAT

The rate of Harakat Mad Silah Towilah is the same as the long rate of Mad Munfasil which is 4 or 5 harakat when Wasal (continue) and should be Sukun or not extended when Waqaf (stop)

THE SIGN

The sign of Mad Silah Towilah can be identified by looking at the letter Ha ‘ followed by the small letter Ya’ or small letter Wau  that has a long mark on it and followed by the letter Hamzah.

NAMED AS

Another name for Mad Silah Towilah is Mad Silah Kubra. Named Silah which means to continue is because the word is extended its reading with Wau or Ya ‘ at the time of Wasal (continue), but it should read Sukun when waqaf (stop). It is called Kubra because it is followed by vowel hamzah after it which causes it to be read more than 2 harakat which is 4 or 5 harakat.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

The hukm for this rule is Jaiz which is better to prolong or extend elongation. So, this Mad should be read 4 or 5 harakat on the side of Imam Hafs ‘An Asim (Quranic scholar) through the stream of Imam As-Syatibi.
